Don’t know about you, but I have found SHM’s Key Principles and Characteristics of an Effective Hospital Medicine Group to be a very useful framework for thinking about what it takes for a hospitalist group to be successful. The Key Characteristics seem to have resonated with hospitalists and hospitalist group leaders across the country. They have also gained the interest of hospital administrators and CMOs, and I think that’s a good thing because one of the top take-aways from the Key Characteristics is how crucial it is for HMGs to be adequately resourced and supported.
John Nelson and I will, as usual, be serving as course co-directors for the practice management pre-course at the upcoming HM16 meeting in San Diego on March 6th. This year we wanted to take a completely different approach and structure the pre-course in a way that will help attendees really put the Key Characteristics into practice and propel their groups forward. So John and I, along with our outstanding faculty colleagues Drs. Steve Deitelzweig and Win Whitcomb, will be sharing tons of best practices gleaned from years of working with hospital medicine groups all over the country – in other words we will be putting meat on the bones of the Key Characteristics.
I hope you’ll consider joining us.
Other HM16 highlights:
- Get up early and join us for the 5K Fun Run (sponsored by Nelson Flores and Ingenious Med) on Tuesday, March 8th. Registration is at 5:30 am, and the run is free for HM16 attendees. More information at the bottom of this page: http://www.hospitalmedicine2016.org/
- Don’t miss John Nelson and Rick Hilger share their experiences implementing strategies for improving care for high-utilizer and frequent flyer patients at 3:15 on Monday, March 7th.
- I’ll be part of a panel discussing hospitalist work-life balance on Tuesday, March 8th at 4:20.
So much to look forward to at Hospital Medicine 2016. See you in San Diego.
Very interested in the work-life balance discussion on Tuesday.
Can’t wait to be able to take part in those discussions.
