In this observational analysis of 178 patients with VAP, researchers determined the predictive value of a simple tool (IBMP-10*) in determining in-hospital mortality. The simple 0-5 point score was more predictive than APACHE in predicting mortality with an AUC of .824 (abstract). Risk of death was 2% (for score of zero) and 67% (for score of 4). If validated in other studies, this will be a quick and easy tool for determining mortality risk in VAP patients.
